Cathelijn van Goor October 23, 2009 - November 18, 2009 Opening reception: Friday, October 23, 17:00 - 19:30 hrs Cathelijn van Goor is an Amsterdam based artist. In her drawings and paintings she is blurring the boundaries between the figurative and the abstract. On a recent trip to Japan she has gathered slow shutter speed footage at, for example, the metro stations where commuters flock in the rush hour. With this footage she visually analyzes how people move through passing time. When she focuses on an individual figure in the long exposure, time appears to be finite. However, when the focus is shifted to the stream of passing figures, the individuals dissolve into multiple pieces scattered on the canvas or paper. This way an atmosphere of eternity is being created, an atmosphere also found in her previous work. However the contrast between the abstract elements and visible figures has become much stronger in the newer paintings, as shown at 2x2projects.
